resplendence

seven wonderful things i love about autumn

1) going to my favorite coffee shop and reading a good novel over a steamy latte in one sitting.

2) standing on the gorgeous bridge in my favorite park and watching golden leaves eddy in the water below.

3) taking carriage rides through the city on the first cold evenings of the year.

4) spending late nights lying in the grass with one or two of my closest friends and half a dozen blankets, star-gazing and dreaming.

5) going for walks in a frigid rain down the deserted streets of downtown, humming november rain to myself, and thinking how sweet the dreariness is.

6) being still and breathing in the sharp beauty, watching the wind stir the lovely dying trees, and knowing the marvelous fact that they only die to live. nothing ever dies, it all simply moves on. and this death can be beautiful, like the stars - the birth of a star is beauty unsurpassed, except by the death of it.

7) seeing how the wintry breeze puts life into people's cheeks, makes their eyes shine bright - everything becomes so vivid.

there is no season like this season. i delight in each day of it. every year, i am eager for the life cycle of nature to come back to the dying. it's absolutely thrilling.

there's also something about the coldness i adore. i love wearing sweaters and scarves and holding cups of steaming coffee to warm my hands. i like walking close to people and feeling the warmth of their bodies next to me, like a shelter from the chilliness. this time of fading, lonely sorrow, which i find so ravishingly beautiful, is also the most intimate season.

and it's not even fully begun.
